Is the Mobile Banking App Safe to Use?
One of the most common questions we receive is, “how safe is mobile banking?” Our members are rightfully concerned with the safety and security of their financial information. With more members downloading our mobile banking app onto their smartphones everyday, we want to ensure you know exactly what measures we take to protect your credit union account.
Encrypted connection
Our banking app links your phone directly with our computer system. The connection is encrypted with our security algorithms. Since you don’t need to open a web browser or use WiFi to access your account through our dedicated app, you aren’t vulnerable to common phishing scams used by hackers.
Password protected
Just like our online banking, we require each user to input a username and password in order to access their account details. If your phone falls asleep, or you exit the app, we automatically log you off. This ensures that your account does not remain open on your phone.
Authentication procedures
In order to set up mobile banking, we require an authentication process before allowing access to your account. A one-time pin will be emailed to you in order to confirm your identity before logging on to the mobile banking app for the first time.
Insured by the NCUA
The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) insures all credit union members up to $250,000. This means if someone did manage to steal money from your account through any means, including digitally, then your losses would be insured. Your funds would be replaced up to $250,000.
Human error
There’s a much greater chance of your account becoming compromised through human error than criminals hacking into our mobile banking app. Here are some tips to prevent someone gaining access to your financial information.
- Don’t use the same password for your mobile banking app and other online spaces, like social media or email. That way if one of your other accounts are compromised, the hacker will not automatically have your banking password.
- Change your password every six months.
- Avoid using public Wifi to access your financial accounts. Use your home’s private internet connection or cellular data.
- Make sure your phone is always password protected, either through a pin or fingerprint. If you do lose your phone, change your banking password immediately through online banking and give us a call to notify us of the situation. That way we can actively monitor your account for any suspicious activity.
Don’t let your fear of being hacked prevent you from benefitting from the convenience of our mobile banking app. In fact, checking your account balance and history daily from your phone is a great way to protect yourself from fraud. Checking your account on the mobile banking app will allow you to identify any suspicious activity quickly and notify us right away.
So, how safe is mobile banking? As safe as your financial institution makes it – and at AmeriChoice the safety and security of our members is our upmost concern.
