What Is A Credit Union?
AmeriChoice Federal Credit Union is part of a long-standing tradition.
The credit union
concept began in Germany during the mid-1800s. A group of farmers tired of high
prices
and outrageous interest rates combined their money to establish a financial cooperative.
The cooperative would buy supplies in bulk at a lower cost and would lend money
to its
members at lower interest rates.
Today's credit unions are similar. AmeriChoice is among the 8,600 credit unions
in the United States and Canada, serving more than 85 million members. AmeriChoice,
like other credit unions, is a not-for-profit cooperative financial institution
owned and
operated by our members. The members democratically operate the credit union
under state and federal regulation.
AmeriChoice continues a longstanding tradition of providing a valued
benefit to the community. We are a member of your community and
we pledge to give back to it. AmeriChoice supports the community
through our superior financial services and our charitable
involvement throughout the region.
Although credit unions have changed over the years to meet the
demands of our members, our philosophy of "People Helping
People" has remained the same.
